I cant wait to go this year, i've been going for the past 2 years and have learnt so much material, i still havent taken all of it out.

Sometimes i will just sit there every couple of months and just take some of the compositions out, and the memories of the summer school come back to me. Some of them are just alien to me, so intricate I dont even understand what i wrote down. :?

You learn more than just compositions. I now feel more confident to play with it and enjoy it rather than just stick the a kaida and a few book palte. The taal classes are good especially when your put on the spot by Pandit Ji (Pandit Shankar Ghosh) to count 3 into 7... and when you hear the name Gurdain you know inside that hes gonna be asked to do something i can only dream an angel will fall from the heavens and bless me with, like... Gurdain - you count 27 into 35.

Pandit Shankar Ghosh - Well... you know.

Ustad Harkirat Singh Ji's humble personality alongside his wealth of knowledge of compositions, playing technique, laykari, nikaas and even his playing posture is so inspirational, even just watching him play is the one of the best lessons one can have.

Bickram Ghosh's way of teaching and his enthusiasm is insane. I can still hear it. "Come-one. Feel the rhythn, enjoy, YEAH" Prabhu's famous analogies.

Gurdain and Harkiret Singh are always there to lend a helping hand and will gladly advise you or teach you something. This year they will be taking classes and hosting riyaaz sessions, to inspire beginners like me.

Surajato Roy is one of the nicest people i've met. He is a disciple of Pandit Shankar Ghosh, and rising Star in the world of tabla. He is also glad to share material, doesnt hold back at all. There are a few videos on Youtube.

The only question i will ask is, ARE YOU GONNA COME?

Please note: this is is now way a review of the summer school, just a few colourful memories, if you wannna know what the experience is and what you will learn, YOU JUST HAVE TO COME.

See you all there.

Wow, what a great few days...!!

Accompaniment lesson with Harkirat-ji on tabla and his wife singing bandishes...

Superb Taleem and performance based compositions mainly in Jhaptaal from Harkirat-ji, Prabhu-ji (
)
and of course the great maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh.

Enjoyable videos from Gurdain and Harkiret, good food, good company, good jam sessions, a great performance on the Saturday night and an extra special Sunday morning experience, a private concert from the Pandit ji.

Long days, hard work but well worth it...!
