Hi all,

American Sitarist Paul Livingstone (Disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar) and Sarodiya Arturo Cordero (Disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) are formally creating a Music Ashram in Mexico. They have found the perfect old building for it, but they need donations to pay the down payment on the structure. It is the perfect scene for a school of Indian Classical Music. Check out the video and photos. Please consider donating to this very worthy goal. Even donations of as little as $5 will help and will be greatly appreciated.

"This creative ashram community has been a vision for the past 7 years.  3 years ago,
we found this abandoned house in a beautiful area of southern Mexico City known as Chimalistac.  In this beautiful and tranquil neighborhood of historic houses, nature and cobblestone streets stands a house of exquisite beauty, character and inspiration... filled with no life, save a family of cats, standing quiet and empty for the past 27 years!

Our dream is to house a dynamic and self sufficient community of artists in this amazing, house near the center of this historic and diverse city of 20.1 million people.  A refuge in the midst of the city that serves the public in and outside of their own community.

These campaigns will be followed by fundraising concerts in Mexico City and Los Angeles to fund the repair and renovation of the house with all the craftsmanship of the original style.  We will repair stained glass windows, stone and woodwork, plumbing, repair the fountain, install public seating in the courtyard and build an outdoor stage.  The entire property will be customized for sustainability including rain water collection and a rooftop garden.

The house will accommodate visiting national & international teachers and musicians and a small number of student housing rooms. A large kitchen and a dinner area for up to 25 people.  This funding provides the down payment of this communally owned house.

We project that 'Casa Chimalistac' will become an internationally recognized center of culture and learning for traditional and creative musical expressions and spirituality.  Any contribution no matter how small is encouraged.  Your time, belief in this vision and respect is valuable.  Thank you for your interest and encouragement on any level!

This English (international) campaign will be supporting a campaign in Mexico to raise
an additional 200,000 Mexican pesos.  This will provide enough funding for the down payment on the house, which will be owned by a new legal cooperative
(associacion civil) in Mexico called 'La Gharana Mexicana'."

About those involved.
Arturo Cordero and Paul Livingstone have been involved with Indian classical music for over '50 years collectively'.  They have trained in the Maihar Gharana tradition under the late legendary artists who sparked the world wide recognition and popularity of Indian music, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Ravi Shankar as well as Rajeev Taranath and Amiya Dasgupta.

Luis Miguel Costero is a percussionist who has studied tabla with Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri and Abhijit Banerjee.  In addition, we are currenty an organized group of 15  more professional artists, teachers and supporting entrepreneurs and advisors.  We are a collective group in Mexico DF, all of whom will be introduced in our Facebook group page, 'La Gharana Mexicana'  please join us there as well!

We, alongside recognized master artists from India and the world seek to spread the gift of knowledge in music that we have received very openly.  Our vision after many years in collaboration with others, is that this ashram is feasible and will become self-sufficient and an asset to the artistic, spiritual and creative life of this chaotic city and world.

Please check it out and donate what you can.
