Bhuwan Chandra is probably the leading sitar guru in Rishikesh, his modern interpretation on traditional themes has won him many fans, all over the world. Influenced by the experimental work of legendary sitar virtuoso, Veena Maharaj, Bhuwan has a child’s curiosity but the ability of a master musician that belies his years. A charismatic man with a charm that is difficult to resist, a natural teacher and an inspiration to his pupils. Bhuwan’s improvisations carry his audience along his stream of consciousness, as powerful a current as that of the Ganga that flows past the door of his music school. He is accepting students of all levels and abilities, guaranteeing personal tuition on the sitar, along with lessons on tabla, harmonium and many other traditional Indian instruments.
You can experience the beauty of the town that inspired the Beatles in 1968, study yoga under the expert instruction of Bhuwan’s brother Kamal and much more. The Himalayan Yoga and Music Gurukul run by the brothers, offers intensive, certified teacher training courses that have worldwide recognition. Classes are conducted in their beautifully decorated yoga and music hall, located two minutes from the music school, along the banks of the Ganga.
Every year, Bhuwan presents the annual International Free Yoga and Music Festival, 1st-14th November, with over forty guest instructors from all over India. The two week event is always oversubscribed, so it’s wise to contact Bhuwan to ensure a place. http://www.himalayanyogagurukul.com/Bhuwan Chandra.jpg

Veena Maharaj is the greatest influence on Bhuwan Chandra's sitar playing. Check out his feature on this site or get in touch with Bhuwan on http://www.himalayanyogagurukul.com/

Bhuwan Chandra deserves a much wider audience. This man is the new Ravi Shankar, a blazing sitarist. Visit his music school near Ram Jhula Bridge, Swargashram, Rishikesh, India. All visitors are most welcome and take some sitar/yoga lessons with his brother, Kamal Chandra.

This reminds me... what ever happened to that Ranjan Maharaj guy?

Here's two pics

One is an ancient ruin
The other is an ancient ruin

Play spot the difference.

Does this explain why I ended up in Puglia?

What's the difference between Rishikesh and Puglia?

There are no bullshit sitar teachers in Puglia.

BUT we do have our ashrams.

factoid.
According to the boss of one sect - when the end of the world comes there will be two places spared. One is India (surprise!) the other is Cisternino.

hence the Cisternino ashram. Maybe the main reason Ragamala moved down here? I mean, no-one wants to have to queue for plane tickets to India whichwill never materialise when the end of the world is announced, if you can just drive down to Italy.

From the videos on his Youtube channel, all I can tell is that he seems to only play Yaman. My favorite of his videos is this one. He does not quite stick the landing at the end.
