Hi Everyone!

I wonder about this...

I am studiyng to bachelor degree in music in Norway at the moment. A bachelor degree is three full years of studying. I have two years in Norway and there is an optional (3rd) year that I can study anywhere in the world! THIS IS GREAT!! HOHOHO

IS THERE ANY SCHOOLS/UNIVERSITIES THAT HAS TABLA-COURSES?

It would be cool if this thread could be an information source for this topic! I am sure there is other people who are thinking of studying this beautiful instrument in an academic approach...

Not sure but i know the university of bombay and benares university both have courses in indian classical music. The school of oriental and african studies (SOAS) in London (part of university of london) have some ethnomusicology courses which cover ICM as well. There's also the ali akbar school of music in california. Not sure if this school is affiliated to any universities. If it is, probably the university of california.

Hope this helps

O.,
You might consider who will be teaching this course of study abroad. That could be as important as where it's located.

Olumenati,

There are many universities in India with music departments. In the city of Baroda (Gujarat State), the Maharaj Sayajirao University has a well known music college, which offers diploma and degree courses. Bhatkhande University in Lucknow and the Benares Hindu University are also also possibilities. I'm sure a little research will produce many results. Good luck.

That would be great, but I prefer to be anothet place than california. At least for now. Maybe I change my opinion later. I have checked out some schools in the US and they seem to be quite expensive. But if there are free lessons from a man like swapan chaidhuri...Who knows.

Actually I have found what I am looking for. It is the university in Montreal, Canada. But I have to apply and go to audition and I am not sure that my skills are good enough to enter their school. One have to past a test with music theory, piano playing and a few other things. I will try to get taken up as a student at this university.

It seems that there are many possibilities to study tabla in university and that is great!!! Hopefully it will be even better in the future.
