I'm thinking of going busking to earn a little extra cash. I'm not that good really but I'm sure most people on the high street here (UK) are not going to know any different.

Has anyone else done this? How was it received?

I'm wondering if my sitar will be loud enough. The city centre where I will be playing is pedestrianised but I don't think my sitar is particularly loud.

It's worth a try I suppose, it's a bit more practice even if I don't make any money

I recommend sitting on a rug covered milk crate or similar riser if you're in a high traffic situation. Sitting on the sidewalk lowers the "class image". No good. Some kind of battery operated small amp is really an asset, especially if you end up playing for a parade of kneecaps. Try and get your eyes about the same level as the passing audience. If you're in a park then getting down on the ground is ok. The grass becomes its own stage. Dress up or dress theme. The bum image will not generate much income and sympathy ain't what it used to be. Wether you're doing the Royal Albert Hall or the street around, you are a professional musician in this instance. Act the part. Be professional. Hope you do well.

hey, sorry for the late reply. I'm in Oxford.

I haven't been yet, I need to get loads of practice in first plus it's just too cold here at the moment, when it's not freezing it is wet
