Hi All!

I posted this under sitar as well. But this time, I want to pose the question from a vocal point of view:

My question is, how does one develop alaaps and taans?

For example, my notation for Raag Bhairon, teen taal (note: (F) will be used for komal sur, and (H) for upper octave) goes like this.

ASTHAI

MA MA MA MA | PA PA MA PA | DHA(F) DHA(F) PA PA | GA RE(F) SA - |
PA DHA(F) NI SA(H) | RE(HF) RE(HF) SA(H) SA(H) | SA(H) NI DHA(F) PA | MAPA DHA(F)PA MAGA RE(F)SA|

ANTRA

MA MA PA PA| DHA(F) DHA(F) NI NI | SA(H) SA(H) SA(H) SA(H) | RE(HF) RE(HF) SA(H) SA(H) |
SA(H) RE(HF) GA(H) MA(H) | GA(H) RE(HF) SA(H) SA(H) | SA(H) NI DHA(F) PA | MAPA DHA(F)PA MAGA RE(F)SA|

How do you make an alaaps and taans of this? What are the rules?

I apologize if this is an ultra basic question. I don't have the privelege of having an ustaad right now...

Thanks,
Aman.
