Ok, here's some advice then since no one has posted. MKS sitars vary in quality, they're mass produced and some can be fine but it that budget range you should be careful and not expect too much. Definitely go with either Ali Akbar college or Sitarsetc as they have return policies unless you are outside of the US in which case you'll have to take your chances with the sites from India. Let us know how it goes?

A few months ago I got an MKS "#3" Pancham Karaj from AACM. It has 13 tarafs, while many #3 models have 11. Just a nice touch although the number of tarafs does not a good sitar make.

But I chose this because it was one of those really nice finds. Very well put together. Very dolid. Excellent feel. Initially it was quite open and twangy. I did a quick jawari and it rounded out beautifully. Overall a much better instrument than I would have expected and actually simply a very nice sitar.

My advice: don't buy a sitar without trying it. Figure out how you can get to a reputable dealer--a round-trip airline ticket may be more reasonable than you expect. Wether you think of it as an extra charge, insurance, whatever, it will be worth it. Especially if you are making a big investment in the instrument.

Thanks for answering.
I would like to try it, but I live in Italy and I didn't find any around, I have to buy it from a foreign country.

What do you think about DMS sitars?
Do you know what is the Sound Quality like?
Does anybody have it?

Thanks!

DMS carries sitars from Ibrihim & Bashir as well as RA Sitarmaker - both being respected makers. Of all the Indian shops - they are - when it comes to issues of responsible packing and shipping - probably the most reliable.
