Dear All,

Have been playing tabla for years but have never really been able to control the baya. What I mean is: every time I play, it keeps sliding towards me. U know when u play tabla, quite a few people usually slant the baya away from them (for easier playing), but when I do that, and play, soon enough it will slant back towards me and I’ll have to keep re-adjusting.

Any thoughts?

Probably your chutta is too small.  I have found the only way that I can get a good chutta is to make my own.

Dear David,

Thank you so much for your reply. And thank you for the video. Yes you're right, sometimes, making things ourselves is a much better option.

Great! Thanks!

Just to discuss a little more, it could also be due to my technique ya?

It is possible.  But the rings that come with the tabla are almost always the wrong dimensions, while I am unable to comment about your technique without seeing it.  With the limited information at my disposal I am voting for the rings as the culprit.
