I'm looking for something to play along to (that has tampura and tabla) but I'm not having much luck finding anything.

I have found:

Taalpulse - not bad but seems to have a quiet output (i only have laptop speakers to play through)
Naad - looks good but can't be tuned to C# for some reason.

Are there any others? I know there is Riyazstudio but I'm looking for something that is free.

Do you have an iphone or ipod touch? I know that there is a tabla/tanpura app for those devices. It's not free, but it is affordable. I think it goes for about $30 USD.

The free ones suck.
Really suck.

Spend a couple of bucks and get a good one.
You wont regret it.
I use iTablaPro on my iPhone.

No i don't have an iphone or ipod unfortunately

I might try to add some loops to a sequencer, see what that's like.

iTablaPro is great... but I also use RiyazStudio (with iTanpura for tanpura)... the tabla sounds are great through good speakers...

Please try Vishwamohini's utility for Riyaz which is free and good enough for practice sessions.
There are many Taals with variations, also you can adjust tempo and scale, volume of Daya, Baya individually.

Hi, I am a beginner student of sitar and I had the same problem you experienced when trying to find free tampura software for my imac. Basically there is none. It is available for Smart phones and tablets. I also found some available for Windows PC but not for Mac desktop until I stumbled on this website. https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~mrahaim/
It offers a basic tanpura track that is 45 minutes long. You can select several keys. I bookmarded it and it works quite well. Hopefully it will work for you. [thumb]

Riyaz utility is one of the widely used utility of Vishwamohini.com

New enhancement added in Taals for Riyaz utility based on user feedback, which is very helpful for musicians.

User can set tempo to be increased after specific time interval. When it reaches to max limit, it will reset to original tempo or gradually decreases to original tempo as per setting.
